Eco Tourism is the practice of traveling for pleasure, giving prior consideration to the protection of ecosystems. It involves travelling to different ecological sites interrelating to the wild life and natural beauty of a place. Along with preserving the nature, it appreciates the culture and history of the environment. Eco tourism includes entertainment and adventures considering the sustainability of the environment. It makes a tourist aware about his/her responsibilities towards the nature and the local people. Morover, this makes the tourist’s mind relaxed and refreshing from their stressfull and busy life.
Literally, the term ecotourism is derived from two words, Eco system and Tourism. The first step in knowing this growing field of tourism is to know the value of preserving the life. Eco tourism is helpful to show symbolically the relation between human and nature. Eco tourism has provided a different way of preserving environment.
In India, ecotourism is a growing industry which is gathering privilage day be day. The places of south and northeast india are the main parts with the treasured natural beauty. The abundant source of flora and fauna in parts of India results in the rapid growth of Ecotourism within it. As a result, currently there are nearly 80 national parks and 441 sancturies and numberless botanical and zoological gardens in India. Here we have concentrated on three different states of India – Jammu and Kashmir, Goa and Kerala.
Jammu and Kashmir is one of the best eco tourism spots in India as it provides a wide range of entertainment, which is also secure to the environment. Kashmir which is known as the “Paradise on Earth ” plays an important role in the whole tourism industry of India and it is a model for all the nations about the ecological preservation. The spectacular beauty of Kashmir attracts the tourists, and create a network of people who appreciate natural world and native cultures.
The different varieties of birds found all over Goa easily takes away the tourist’s attention from its towns and historical monuments. North Goa is a major tourist destination due to its beaches and other coastal places. Currently, an estimated 2 million people visit Goa each year. As a result about 20 percent of the total land is under wildlife conservation. There are a large number of eco parks and sanctuaries in Goa. With all the scenic beauty around, life is a celebration for the natives as well as the outsiders. Due to all these, Goa seems to be a perfect place to the nature lovers.
Kerala is reknown for eco tourism. it is titled as “god’s own country” .This small piece of land at the southern most part of India owns a vast biodiversity and great natural beauty. Its eco system, wildlife sanctuaries and national parks, back waters, hill stations, mountains, forests,ets has turned eco tourism into a vast developing sector of tourism in India.This Greeny land is surrounded by arabian sea on the west and western ghats in the east.
